Stories Yet to Be Written: A Walk Along The Pier

In this calm and nostalgic story, you’ll join Lucía as she walks along a quiet pier at sunset, where she reunites with Álvaro after many years apart. Through their reflective conversation, you’ll practise vocabulary related to the sea, emotions, and places in town and review how to describe ongoing scenes and emotional states using the Indicative + some descriptive past actions with the Imperfect.

INTRO
Bienvenidos terrícolas a Spanish Reading Club. Hoy os traigo una historia que sabe a mar y a despedida, a reencuentros que laten entre la nostalgia y la esperanza.
Acompañadme en este episodio titulado «Historias por escribir», «Un paseo por el muelle». Respirad hondo, escuchad el murmullo del agua y dejemos que la historia comience.

STORY
Lucía caminaba despacio por el muelle. El sol se hundía poco a poco en el horizonte, tiñendo de naranja el mar y los edificios antiguos.
A lo lejos, los barcos balanceaban sus mástiles como si saludaran al día que terminaba.
Llevaba las manos en los bolsillos y el corazón algo acelerado. No veía a Álvaro desde hacía años.
Él le había enviado un mensaje: «Ven al puerto, al atardecer».
Cuando llegó, lo vio sentado sobre una baranda, mirando el mar. Llevaba un abrigo gris y una bufanda que el viento movía suavemente.
—Siempre eliges los mejores lugares para esperar—, dijo Lucía.
—Y tú siempre llegas justo cuando empieza a caer el sol—, respondió él.
Caminaron juntos por el paseo marítimo. La luz del atardecer dibujaba sombras largas sobre la arena.
—Algunas historias se escriben solas—, dijo Álvaro.
—Otras aún están por escribirse—, respondió Lucía—. Somos nosotros quienes las creamos, paso a paso.
Siguieron caminando hacia el final del muelle, mientras el mar, el cielo y la luz se fundían en un solo color.
El destino —pensó Lucía— no siempre está escrito.
